The future of LGBTQ culture lies in a concept called (coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw). We cannot separate the struggle of a poor, Black trans woman from the struggle of a wealthy, cisgender gay man. They live in different worlds, but they are bound by the same system of cisheteropatriarchy.

Terms used widely today—such as "spilling tea," "throwing shade," "vogueing," and "reading"—were created by trans and queer people of color in these spaces.
