A significant point of critique for Kissa is its treatment of female agency. On one hand, the series deserves credit for allowing its female lead to articulate her desires without immediate punishment—a rarity in mainstream Indian storytelling. She is not a passive object of the male gaze but an active participant in her choices. On the other hand, the show’s cinematography and framing often betray this progressivism. The camera lingers on her body in moments of vulnerability in ways that cater specifically to the male viewer, creating a dissonance between the dialogue (which champions agency) and the visual language (which objectifies). This contradiction leaves the viewer unsure whether Kissa is a feminist-inflected drama or simply a more sophisticated version of the same voyeuristic product.
